A Message from Miss D'Fe, Queen of Dance Floor Ettiqutte

Hello, Guys and Dolls!

Remember that it is not polite to correct others' dancing on the social dance floor, unless he or she personally requests you do so.

Also be mindful that if someone does not lead or follow something like you meant for them to, the question you should ask yourself is, What can I do to make this better? We never want to play the blame game on the social dance floor.

Naturally, all of these rules differ in the classroom setting where we want to be constructive in order to help each other become the best dancers we can.

Yours truly,

 Miss D'Fe

Swing Out of Town, Memphis! by Mykle Harchfield

January 1st, 2007

Using every bit of muscle strength left in our bodies, Sarah Beth and I climbed back into the Blazer for the final journey home. Our endurance had been challenged but we prevailed... and had bags full of sweaty clothing to show for it. It had been a strenuous four days, packed with non-stop workshops and dances in Asheville, NC. More importantly, we laughed hard enough that our abdominal muscles ached for days! There is no other group of people more friendly, welcoming and helpful than swing dancers.

Being a bit of a beginner and having less than the normal amount of coordination, I am discouraged easily on the dance floor. But Lindy Focus was the most fun I had in 2006… seriously. I had the opportunity to dance with some of the best dancers around, thus improving my dance skills. I encourage anyone interested in swing dance, whether you are a beginner, a little more intermediate or even an advanced dancer, to travel to as many out-of-town events as possible. Red Hot Lindy Hop dancers are always traveling to these events, and encourage you to ride along. Believe me—the trip is as much fun as the dance!
