Jaredan Braal
Jaredan Braal was from California until 1999 when he got a wild hair up his a.. and moved to Memphis to attend the University of Memphis. Jaredan began dancing in 1997 when he auditioned for Guys and Dolls and, for unknown reasons, he was cast as one of the lead dancers. He began swing dancing in 1997 after going to see the neo-swing band, Lee Press-On and the Nails, with the cast from Guys and Dolls. That was all it took, he was hooked!
Jaredan soon started a swing dance club at his high school in California, and began bringing in teachers to teach 6-count East Coast swing and aerials classes. Jaredan was introduced to Lindy Hop when he happened upon a workshop where Frankie Manning was teaching.
Once he moved to Memphis, Jaredan became involved with 'Memphis Bell Swing Society'. In 2001, he helped form the University of Memphis' swing dance club, the 'Alley Cats', where he began teaching swing dance.
Jaredan has attended many workshops including Lindy Hop with Frankie Manning, Lindy Hop and Shag with Dan and Tiff of '23 Skidoo' from Denver CO, Lindy Hop and Balboa with Sue and Katie Hawn of 'Let It Swing' from Knoxville TN, and Lindy Hop with Peter Strom of the 'Lindy Movement' from Minneapolis, MN, to name a few.
Now Jaredan is one of the founding members of 'Red Hot Lindy Hop'. He is working to promote swing dance in Memphis. When not dancing, Jaredan can be found out in the woods on his mountain bike or at work, where he is a Product Development Engineer for Medtronic Sofamore Danek. |
